I was brought up in a Christian family, and decided to make a commitment to Jesus at the age of seven. I continued to come to church with my family, and at the age of eleven, my dad announced the news that he was leaving my mum for another woman. I continued to see my dad for a while; however the relationship was limited and superficial and the visiting came to an end.
At the age of fifteen I encountered God in a more dynamic way (through the power of the Holy Spirit), whilst away on a youth weekend. I came away feeling empowered to live the life of a Christian more effectively.
Not long after this my mum was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and this, over the period of a few years, led to her having to retire early from her work on medical grounds. In turn this, amongst other issues, led to us being re-housed albeit by this time it was just my mum and I left at home. This was a demanding time of great vulnerability; however God proved to be as faithful then as I know he is now.
During my mid to late teenage years I was actively involved in the youth work at my local church and the support and encouragement I found in other Christians was simply amazing. Only now with hindsight can I truly see the benefits and input of so many that I now recognise God placed before me.
In April 1994, I met Lesley (now my wife) and in September 1995 we were married. Lesley had two children from her first marriage, Matt & Rachel (then aged seven and six respectively). Adjusting to life as a parent with immediate responsibilities was challenging for us all; added to this was the arrival of our son Josh in the following autumn.
Following a clear calling to join the Elim ministry, I now feel honoured and privileged to be part of a leadership here at Loughborough. My key areas in terms of gifting would probably be servant-hearted, organiser and compassion.
