I am one of the few real "locals" on the leadership Team, born in Shepshed but living in Loughborough since marrying Sylvia in 1968. We have three children, Faith, Ruth and James, and now 4 lovely grandsons, all under the age of 3.
At school in the early 60's, most of my friends attended church and we often discussed Christianity. I was always clear in my mind about God's claim on my life, but unsure what that meant for me. I am so thankful for the many people who witnessed to me and explained the essential need to be born again, to put my trust in Him, and to confess His name. I gave my life to the Lord in 1963.
Having trained as an accountant I worked for the local authority here before retiring 5 years ago. Now, for one or two days each week, I help Sylvia to look after the grandchildren who live locally. I continue to take an interest in politics and modern history and we enjoy our garden together, doing DIY, reading and travelling.
Sylvia and I had been in an evangelical church in Shepshed but had dropped out of church before being invited to Elim in 1971. The Pentecostal experience was entirely new to us but we were thrilled to come into the blessings of sound Bible preaching, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
There are many things about Elim that still excite me, especially the diversity of the congregation, and the fact that everyone is welcome here, and can freely participate in worship together. The fact that this church works closely with other churches in the town is a very positive aspect of our church life.
Over the years I have been involved in most aspects of church life, including Sunday School teaching. At present I represent this church on the Building Relationships Group, and am Gift Aid Secretary. Sylvia and I have presented the Marriage Course and Time out for Teenagers, and would love to run courses for families again.
God has been very gracious to us over the years, answering prayer, healing, and providing for our needs in many and wonderful ways. My prayer is for revival in this place, and that God will show His power again.
