Andy's Testimony

I was born in St Helens and have one sister. My dad was an engineer and keen on DIY, which I often helped with. In my teenage years I became interested in design and technology. After my A levels I took a job instead of going to university which allowed me to get hands on experience of electronics and computers. That was a 3 year contract which wasn't renewed due to reduced government funding, so I decided to go to university. Obviously God had His hand on it all, and I went to Keele which is where I met Zoe. We've been married over 10 years and have 2 children.

After leaving university I began working life again, now as a Software Engineer at Loughborough Sound Images (which later became Motorola). By the time the site closed I was Software Development Manager, but decided to move back into engineering. I now work at home as a web development engineer for a company called Nemisys. I'm enjoying the new challenges, and it's great to work in an environment which gives something back to society as the company specialises in web-sites for charities.

I've been attending Elim since 2000, but I didn't come from a Christian background. My sister went to Sunday School as a child, but I only went for the Christmas parties so it was quite a surprise to my parents when I did become a Christian! The turning point was going to university and meeting Zoe. It started with a Phil and John concert and then I started going to the chapel on campus. Eventually I was confirmed (as it was an Anglican/Free church I was accepted into membership of most denominations!!). It's been a long journey though, which has progressed much in my time at Elim.

As for my giftings, they're mainly in the technical and analytical side which doesn't always seem obvious as to how to serve God. However, I try to put them to good use as a sound engineer, both on practice nights and Sunday mornings, as well as in the role of Treasurer. Outside of this fellowship we're involved in the South Loughborough Project which is an ecumenical project, and I guess God will grow my giftings in that.
